The Accident Investigation course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to conduct thorough and effective workplace incident investigations. The course highlights the importance of incident reporting and investigation in preventing future occurences, improving workplace safety systems, and meeting legislative obligations under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and associated regulations.
This program is suited to supervisors, safety representatives, team leaders and WHS practitioners who are directly involved in the reporting, management, or investigation of workplace incidents. It explores the purpose and value of incident investigation, the responsibilities of key personnel, and the critical role of communication, analysis, and documentation in achieving meaningful safety outcomes.
Training is delivered through a blend of interactive presentations, case studies, group discussions, and practical activities, ensuring participants can apply theoretical principles to real workplace situations and develop confidence in conducting investigations that identify root causes and preventive actions.
Through reflective learning, peer support and practical application, participants will:

- Apply the processes to be followed in the event of an incident, including scene management and evidence preservation

- Identify and collect critical information and eveidence to support investigation
- Apply recognised investigation methods and techniques to determine contributing factors
- Conduct effective interviews using structured questioning and communication techniques
- Identify contributing factors and root causes using systematic analysis tools
- Complete comprehensive incident reports with clear findings and practical recommendations for corrective action
