The Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively identify, assess, and manage the hazards and risks associated with hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods in the workplace.

This program delivers a comprehensive overview of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and Codes of Practice governing hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Participants will learn how to manage chemicals safely throughout their lifecycle – including labelling, storage, handling, transport and disposal – while understanding the importance of risk control, health monitoring, and emergency preparedness.

Training is delivered through a blend of interactive presentations, case studies, group discussions, and practical activities, ensuring participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical capability to apply hazard management principles in real workplace environments.

Through reflective learning, peer support and practical application, participants will:

  • Understand the WHS legislation, regulations, and Codes of Practice relating to hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods
  • Identify, assess and manage risks associated with hazardous chemicals in the workplace
  • Apply statutory requirements for labelling, signage, storage, transport, handling, use and disposal of hazardous substances
  • Interpret and apply information from Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to support safe work practices
  • Understand basic toxicology principles and exposure limits relevant to hazardous chemicals

  • Understand the requirements for health monitoring and exposure surveillance
