The WorkSafe WA-approved Health and Safety Representative (HSR) Refresher course is designed for elected HSRs who have successfully completed the introductory five-day HSR training program. HSRs are entitled to attend a refresher course every 12 months following the completion of their initial training.

This course provides an update on current Work Health and Safety legislation and any amendments introduced under both the general and mining regulations. Participants will review and strengthen their understanding of the WHS framework, the management of hazards and risks in the workplace, and effective approaches to incident and accident investigation. The program also revisits the correct application of Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs), procedures for ceasing unsafe work, and best practice in consultation, representation, and participation within the workplace.

The course has been approved by the Work Health and Safety Commission and meets the requirements of the Work Health and Safety general Regulation 21(1)(b).

Completion of the Health and Safety Representative Refresher course enables elected HSRs to maintain up-to-date knowledge of their legislative duties, powers, and responsibilities under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020. The course reinforces confidence in applying safety principles, communicating effectively with workers and management, and representing employees on health and safety matters.

Through reflective learning, peer discussion, and practical application, participants will:

  • Strengthen understanding of the WHS framework and the role of HSRs under both the general and mining regulations
  • Identify, assess, and control workplace hazards and risks using established WHS principles
  • Conduct effective workplace inspections and incident investigations
  • Support consultation and worker participation in WHS decision-making
  • Appropriately issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and respond to unsafe work situations

Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a Certificate of Attendance approved by WorkSafe WA.
