The Comcare-approved Health and Safety Representative (HSR) course is a five-day introductory training program designed for elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs working in Comcare-regulated environments, including Commonwealth agencies and licensed companies.
This course provides participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to effectively represent their work group, identify and manage workplace risks, and contribute to Safer Healthier Work environments.
In accordance with Section 72 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, employers are required to provide elected HSRs the opportunity to attend an approved training course of their choice, in consultation with their employer. The Comcare-approved HSR course delivered by WHS Foundation meets all regulatory requirements and enables HSRs to carry out their responsbilities with confidence and competence.
WHS Foundation is approved by Comcare to deliver both the initial HSR course and HSR Refresher trianing under the Commowealth Work Health and Safety legislation.
Through reflective learning, peer support & practical application, participants will:
- Interpret the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and understand its relationship to the role of the HSR within the Commowealth jurisdiction
- Identify key parties, their legislative obligations and duties under the WHS Act
- Establish and maintain representation in the workplcace throughout consultative processes
- Participate in consultation and issue resolution on behalf of the workgroup
- Represent members in risk management processes undertaken by the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU)
- Apply communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills to effectively resolve WHS matters
- Issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and direct the cessation of unsafe work in accordance with legislative powers
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance approved by Comcare.
