This refresher training is designed for elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs working in Comcare-regulated environments, including Commonwealth agencies and Licensee companies. Candidates are eligible to attend this training after one year of complete the initial five-day Comcare HSR course, provided they have continuously held their position without any term breaks.

This course reinforces your understanding of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation while updating you on your role and responsibilities as a HSR. This course will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to actively support and maintain the health and safety of your workplace.

WHS Foundation is approved by Comcare to deliver both the initial Comcare HSR course and Refresher training.

Through reflective learning, peer support & practical application, participants will:

  • Stay updated with any changes to the work health and safety legislation and which may affect them performing their role in the workplace
  • Develop skills related to the role, powers, functions and behaviours of a HSR
  • Establish representation in the workplace
  • Participate in consultation and issue resolution
  • Represent members in the WHS risk management processes undertaken by the PCBU
  • Use communication, negotiation and problem solving skills as a HSR to represent a workgroup and to resolve WHS issues
  • Issue a Provisional Improvement Notices (PIN) and direct the cessation of work
  • Contribute to fostering a positive safety culture and encouraging safe behaviours in the workplace
  • Support and participate in incident investigation processes to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences

 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
